About Us

Dallas Radio Control Club

We all need to look back once in a while and see where we have been so we can see where we are going. The Dallas Radio Control Club has a proud 49-year history of leadership in the Dallas Fort Worth area. Ours club is the oldest AMA chartered club in this area and we are continuing to grow.

The Dallas Radio Control Club was founded in August 1957. At that time there were 25 original members and the club dues were $2.00. The Club was flying in Caddo Mills and in Arlington. In 1958 the search for closer suitable flying site begins. Mesquite is mentioned and lobbying begins. Three years later In 1961 DRCC moves to obtain an AMA Charter. The club nails down the SPE (Samuels Park East) site that many of you are familiar with. Research on the runway surfaces - Oil/Clay mix began.

In the 1980's DRCC moves to its current location at the Simonds Lake Park located in Seagoville, TX. The club organizes the first Race against Cancer. DRCC raised $12,000 for charity in one race. DRCC incorporates and the club begins to improve the park by putting in a new runway. This time, we decided to go with concrete. The club decided to finance the project with a "Construction Bond" program is begun (Dec. 1983). As time past and it became time to begin the new the runway the club membership began to shrink. The remaining membership votes that each member will buy two "Bonds" as minimum for "Pilot Member" status. All sub-sequent new members are required to pay an initiation fee that is designed to go toward paying for their "piece" of the runway and eventually retire the bonds.

In 1991 we celebrated our 35 years of grow and prosperity. We continue on with major field renovations to the Simonds Park Field and it has become a class act over the many years. In 2003 the Metro East or Samuels Part (SPE) is finally closed and we have a massive membership intake as Metro East members find new flying locations. With the increase in our membership the club votes on a resolution to extend our current runway to 500 ft from 350ft. The club digs in and makes this project a huge success.

Dallas RC is now 49 years old and continues to grow and strive for excellence, make our field one of the best in the world. We are looking forward to new changes in membership as well as leadership. This can only bring great things to our sport and our club ever enduring history. Come join our huge family and enjoy our great location and sport.
